And One More Picnic

With two days of picnics among the poppies (see Friday and Saturday articles), it was irresistible not to have yet another one to wrap up the weekend.

Tonight's picnic was Lebanese style, and what's better than to enjoy it with a kaisse of the best arak in the world - El-Massaya.

The Arak was poured and three Lebanese appetizers were prepared:

- Tabouleh with jardin parsley, mint and onions; I cannot wait to have the tomatoes ready to produce 100% jardin tabouleh.

- Humus of course (click on link for recipe).

- Lebanese-style potato and parsley salad with lemon and oil dressing (tonight I experimented with adding garlic to this - bad idea).

A beautiful fire was lit under the blooming jasmine tree.

Lebanese-style meat kebabs were tonight's treat for the fire. Those are beef chunks marinated in lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper and sumaq.

Along with the beef goes tomatoes and onions.

And don't worry, the tomatoes and onions will still hold well on the skewers until the meat is done. Try it, delicious.

In Lebanon, when kebabs are ready, they are served on a loaf of pita bread with one side covering them.

The best part about this trick is the soaked-in-meat-juice bread to eat the food with (see below).

Another beautiful jardin picnic to wrap up the weekend, specially with the beautifully blooming jasmine tree, one of my favourite cuisines and kaisse of El-Massaya arak.
