Is This The Best Airport Restaurant in The World?

With 45 minutes to spare before my flight from Heathrow airport and a sign pointing to the Best Airport Restaurant in the world, how could I resist.

The Gorgeous Kitchen had the ambiance, the British skewed menu and the reasonable prices. I walked in intending on a full British experience, starting with a Victorian Lemonade (sounded British enough for me).

Chicken liver pate with cider jelly and a brioche was a perfect start and a perfect taste. Unlike other fancy restaurants, The Gorgeous Kitchen portions are very generous.

The slow cooked lamb with pea puree was by far the best tasting lamb I have ever tasted at or outside airports' restaurants.

As per the appetizer, the portions were very generous that I just could not fit the dessert I was eyeing, so I ended up simply taking a picture of it.

Now my trips must be planned around Heathrow's Terminal 2 to visit The Gorgeous Kitchen again.

Kelowna Pizzeria

Is this a space ship?

It may as well be. Antico Pizza Napoletana is a new Kelowna discovery.

I couldn't find any listings of it on Zomato. There is no website associated with it anywhere that it may as well be in space.

But it is real and it is pretty good.

A nice clean open space; with the owner (or someone important to the place) focusing on making the pizzas and playing hip vinyls.

Being a major Margherita pizza fan, and seeing their Margherita with a different kind of cheese, I went for that.

Fresh, good crust, excellent value for the money.

The buffalo mozzarella cheese may have been over the top, but enjoyed the decadence.

Almost four great discoveries in Kelowna this summer, cannot wait to try the next new kid in town.

Impressive Air France

Air France launched its Vancouver-Paris service a couple of days ago

And here I am, capitalizing on a special upgrade price to promote its business class food

It is not the first time I cross the ocean upgraded, but Air France has impressed compared to other airlines

The cheeses, the wines and the BC inspired seafood appetizers were trés Parisianne

With four options of main dish, it was difficult to choose

So le plat de jour it was - a chicken breast, nicely cooked with a mushroom cream sauce, rice and wilted spinach

Good, but not as impressive as the dessert platter to knock me off into a 5 hours slumber

Awaken with a chocolate cappuccino - most likely from an envelope but would sure love to get my hands on such an envelope

Add a continental breakfast and I was set to cross over to my third continent of the day

Blogger impressed

Kelowna Celebrations

The food may have not been as impressive as the rest of the Kelowna eating experiences this week, but the wine was exceptional (thank you wine sponsor) and the company is by far the best of any conference I attend

Thank you MACU for an amazing evening

Saskatchewan Adventure - Room Service

This is the beautiful view from a Saskatoon Hotel Room - why go out for dinner when I can lounge in my pj and eat in bed looking at this view.

Room service had the most interestingly named dishes - why eat Adam's rib when you can bite into a padded bra.

Well, the padded bra looked more like a non-padded below the bra; and I am not even going to talk about what it tasted like.

Saskatchewan Adventure - The Twister

And we arrive to our destination.

Chamberlain has a population of less than what you find in a small condominium building in Vancouver.

You can also walk the whole town faster than you walk Main street in Vancouver.

Yet, it has two churches (or is it one large church with two roofs?)

It is also the land of Twisted SisterS, one of the most popular road stops restaurants in the province.

And rightly so.

With cows roaming few meters away, you can be assured of eating the freshest burgers and drinking the freshest milk (or milk shakes or twisters).

I am not sure I will ever have more delicious ice cream. And my favourite topping, sprinkles, just made this an amazing tasting experience.

Thank you Saskatchewan - you never cease to amaze me.

Saskatchewan Adventure - The Trip

Three from Saskatchewan and one from the West Coast hit the road.

While people from Saskatchewan may think this is the dullest drive in the world, I was beyond thrilled; enjoying being in the open land and sky.

While the scenery fascinates the eyes, the roaming cows and vast wheat fields fascinate the mind as to how rich our country is with land and what this land gives us.

Destination? You'd have to wait till tomorrow's article to find out, but I assure you it is worth the wait.

Meanwhile enjoy more of the Saskatchewan scenary.

The Wacky Burger Making Buffet

Yes, it is a business lunch buffet style. But rather than a series of mismatch foods, this buffet has a raison d'etre - it is a make your own burger buffet.

The size of the condiments' platters is insane (this is for 25 people!) - I could take a relish bath in this plate.

But the burgers were thick and meaty - either an exceptional butcher sourcing their meat from a prairies' farm where cows roam freely eating grass or a highly genetically modified meat from across the southern boarder (what do you think readers?).

French fries can make anything forgivable - and those were good. A happy meal nonetheless.

Eating on the Road

Eating on the Road is a blog label that embodies all the horrors of business travel. Look at this in-room service entreé at a four star hotel. What do you see? (get my point??)

This is a piece of fishy tasting rubber under the guise of seared tuna; the roasted potatoes and other vegetables are indistinguishable in colour, texture and taste; and all for the mere price of $29 plus service charges and taxes.

Dream Come True

Flying back home the next night, I just did not want to deal with the depression of a cold dinner eaten on a plane (Read Wacky Dinner Plans). I was hungry though and dreaming of a nice hot meal.

My dream came true - a Replacement Chef/My Dear Lovely Neighbour joint effort had a full delicious meal waiting for me.

An inventive salad with radishes, lettuce, apples and raisins soaked in lemon juice (genius) along with deep fried herrings with Brussle Sprouts.

And that was only to start. What a difference 24 hours can make.

Wacky Dinner Plans

All goes against dinner for this flight. Leave home too early for dinner; arrive at hotel too late for room service; flight too short to carry food. So I have to be creative.

Which is literally carrying my dinner with me and having it at dinner time on the plane. Wonder what will happen if I asked a Westjetter to microwave it for me? That will be a test of how far those owners will go...

The least they can do though is to carry the snack they have teased me with on the screen. But no, not on this flight.

Revenge is sweet - they can now clean up my dirty dishes left behind!
