Lunch With Big Lou

The Discovery
While running around from one meeting to another, I stumbled across this butcher shop on the corner of Powell and Gore Street. I would have never guessed such a fancy place can be found in this corner of the the city.

The Inspection
Big Lou's Butcher Shop is the fanciest butcher in the city, that is for sure. But you also feel and smell the quality of the meats they carry.

Pricey? Of course, but all the meats are local and the presentation looks like it was prepared by a professional graphic designer. The guys working there looked like a melange of butchers, chefs and professional restaurateurs, further enhancing the quality perception.

The Tasting
In addition to meats and wide variety of what they call "pantry items" (marinades, sauces, dry rubs, compound butters, etc.), Big Lou's also sells sandwiches. My choice was The Shooter - seared steak with mushrooms, shallots, hot mustard and pickles. I thought the price of $9.00 was on the steep side.

But when I saw the size of the sandwich (L 10", W 5", D 4"), the fancy wrapping, the amount of meat, the quality of food, the freshness of the bread and the best tasting mustard I have had, this sandwich is by far the best deal in town.
