Kebbeh & Cake

Kebbeh is the Lebanese version of meat loaf and it was the star of the party tonight. If you do a search for "Kebbeh" within the blog, you'd see all different versions of this purely Lebanese dish. Otherwise, tune back in tomorrow and learn more about Kebbeh and the recipe for this version.

The star of the party was surrounded with all sorts of goodies on all sides...

On the east side, Kebbeh was protected by a melange of Lebanese pickles - home made cucumber pickles, home made Leffet (see Leffett (Pickled Turnips)), pickled mini eggplants stuffed with walnuts and pepper and Lebanese olives.

The bouquet in the bottom left hand corner of the picture is oregano from jardin. This was turned into an oregano-lettuce-mint salad (100% jardin crop) tossed with chopped lemons and olive oil.

The southern desert was separated from Kebbeh with the trio:

- home made humus
- potatoes salad, jardin parsley and chives, dressed with lemon juice and olive oil.
- yogurt with cucumbers and jardin mint

The trio are listed in order of preference based on the ratio of leftovers versus initial amounts of each.

On the north side, mountains were blocked by jardin chard with garlic and olive oil. The jardin yielded so much chard that we had enough for five of us, along with leftovers.

And to prevent the western types from approaching the Kebbeh, a three-tier baked defense line was built.

This included Lahm be Ajeen (flat bread with spicy meat on top), Manakeesh (dried thyme and sesame pies), and the infamous Halloom Sails, but this time the Halloom was stuffed in little round pitas and grilled in the stove.

Despite its defense system, the Kebbeh stardom lost to Anita cake. This is a recent Anita invention - a gingerbread beer cake with chocolate ganache frosting. Should I say more?

 Happy Early Birthday Ladies.
