Haifa & Chlifa in Grade 9
Dancing to the music of the charming Haifa, three classes of Grade 9 French Immersion students welcomed somerville kitchen to their school to talk about Lebanon, the book La Route De Chlifa by Michele Marineau and taste somerville kitchen's Lebanese fare.
The night before, somerville kitchen got active making Sfoof (click for recipe) and humus (click for recipe) to feed close to 75 students.
Store bought Spinach Fatayer, Haloum cheese and pita bread were added to the mix and all was set for an 8:15 am appearance at the first class.
Each of the three classes began with a discussion about the book.
La Route De Chlifa tells the story of a Lebanese teenager who immigrated to Montreal during the Lebanese civil war and the students engaged in hearing first hand war experiences.
Afterwards, to lighten the mood, Haifa (who was deemed to have the beauty of the female character in the book) music blasted.
And the dancing Grade 9 students lined up to taste somerville kitchen's fare.
A fascinating day with smart, well-behaved kids talking about Haifa, Chlifa, Lebanon and Lebanese food. What an amazing experience.... tout en Francais!
Merci les 9e année étudiants et mon bon ami le professeur.

That's fantastic! Way to get more legs for Somerville Kitchen.
Plus great to see the next generation in action :)
