Picnic Pakistani Style

Too hot to cook, too hot to sit in a crowded restaurant and more importantly, too beautiful not to be among the poppies in jardin.

Some of you may have already read Weekend Lunch Pakistani Style or Weekday Dinner Pakistani Style, so tonight's decision was simple - A picnic Pakistani style from from Al-Watan (6084 Fraser Street).

Pleasant reception, quick order fulfillment, and back in time to enjoy the breeze on the picnic table with a feast of:

- The not to be missed chicken biryani with all the spices still visible in the rice.

- The Pakistani style chicken curry with bone-in chicken that drops off the bones in a touch.

- A new discovery, the lamb channa, with chick peas and a delicious tomato-based sauce.

- An order of plain naan, no butter which they do exceptionally well.

- Paksitani style basmati rice flavoured with saffron, very colourful and flavourful.

- and of course, no visit to Al-Watan, even if for take-out, without their infamous mango lassi which I adore.

The biryani was as exceptional as always and made the most of my dinner intake.

But I also really enjoyed the lamb channa on my fancy looking picnic platter.

A lovely picnic as all awaited the arrival of the promised thunder storm (which, for the record, never made it).
