I found this pack of long pasta (like really long, almost 3 feet long) at Tosi Italian Food Importers in Chinatown.
It was way too long to fit in any cupboard or pantry, so it hung out on the counters until tonight.
The challenge with long pasta is how to cook it. Pasta purists among the diners refused to have it cut before cooking.
So the largest pot in the house was brought down and the art of cooking 3 feet long pasta begun. It was not that easy, let me tell you. The challenges started when trying to carry this large pot filled with water over to the stove.
Skeptical me wouldn't believe it feasible to boil such long pasta without breaking it.
But, using the same method you use with 1 foot pasta, the contents of the package were slowly pushed into the boiling water.
They rotated like a tornado into the pot and very quickly they were all covered with boiling water, cooking away.
Now the most fun was trying to serve this pasta. While it fit nicely in the pot, taking it out of the pot was the next challenge.
Just see how long it was stretching.
But it fit in plates no problem and dinner was served.
Now with such not-so-regular pasta, an appropriately special pasta sauce was in order.
somerville kitchen delivered not only one, but two special pasta sauces to go with the special 3 feet long pasta.
First, there was a rich, tomato herbs with Swedish meatballs sauce.
Then, my dear lovely neighbour contributed an Indian style delicious peas and shrimp sauce.
Fresh grated cheese, garlic bread and all indulged in a lovely 3 feet long pasta feast.
