Tour of the Far East

At a fund-raiser silent auction at work I won (a) home-made samosas freshly made this morning and (b) New Guinea home-made chutney.

On the way home, I stopped by Citygate Meats & Meals (1019 Main Street) and stocked up on Uganda style cooked and uncooked food (more on this place at Meats & Meals - a Must Try).

And a guest brought over Japanese snacks and desserts:

Eel flavoured potato chips
Seaweed crackers
Mochi

Beer poured, snacks put out, cats approved, and the Tour of the Far East took off.

A guest described the samosas as the "best samosas I've tasted" and they were. Great crust, cute shape, filled with vegetarian stuffing that is not overwhelmed with spices. Thank you to the great family who made it this morning.

From Citygate Meats & Meals there was a spicy butter chicken, spicy beef curry, and my favourite mildly flavoured beans and beef curry. I also bought some masala-marinated chicken that were baked slowly. Delicious spread.

Mochi are Japanese rice cakes made of glutinous rice pounded into paste, stuffed and molded into shape. They looked so dainty. There were three versions: black sesame (my favourite), peanut and red bean paste.

Pleasant dinner company, easy conversation and all those flavours - what more can one ask for on Friday the 13th. Thank you all dinner contributors.
