Ganz Deutsch Wochenende

If you thought yesterday's Oktober Feast was the extent of German this weekend, think again.

This weekend also included the discovery of Plöger Delikatessen - a German store, a café, a deli, a bakery.

The proportion of German products is not significant, but you can find all sorts of other European and locally produced delicatessens including those on-the-to-buy-list oils.

Having said this, Plöger has the best selection of German Senf in the city.

But what seems to be the highlight of this place are its freshly made food and baked goods (yummy hazelnut and honey cakes are also on the list for next visit).

There is one cooked item a day plus all sorts of European-style sandwiches, salads and quiches.

A picnic was packed to take home with black forest ham, smoked gouda cheese, German rye bread, German potato salad, a delicious sausage salad, pork/beef/spinach patties and apple strudel.

I will be returning one weekend for shopping and a freshly made, Germanic breakfast.

I've always wondered about this place so thanks for the virtual tour :) No excuse now that it's blocks away!
