Kids' Kitchen

somerville kitchen had so much fun entertaining two smart and sociable kids tonight.

Child labour laws were broken and kids were put to serve Halloum Sails to kick the evening with.

Batman came out of his cave and served the Lebanese-style meza that included:

- Moudardara (click HERE for recipe)

- Loubieh bi zeit (green beans cooked with oil, onions, garlic and tomatoes)

- Bamieh bi zeit (same as above but with okra)

- Foul (fava beans with garlic, oil, lemon)

And of course humus (click HERE for the authentic Lebanese humus recipe).

And how many kids under 7 do you know will try every item listed above, enjoy it and eat all their plates? A sign of well-brought up kids I say.

As Batman went back to its cave to watch the Muppet Movie, Spiderman climbed up to serve the main meal.

This included mom's rice and chicken cake - an adults and kids entertaining presentation with rice and chicken/ground beef layered in a mold and covered with almonds and pine nuts.

Alongside was a green salad of lettuce, jardin parsley, thyme, and mint with home grown lemon chunks, lemon juice, olive oil and salt.

After Spiderman climbed up humans, the kids finished all their greens before joining Batman in his cave with the Muppet Movie.

Dessert was a multinational spread with kid-friendly, colourful and crunchy sweets (I thought I will skip chocolate for the kids, but did not take into account the sugar content of those sweets that probably got those kids hopping all night - forgive me dear parents).

Back to the sweets - a melange of Iranian walnut cookies, Indian sweet samosas, polish sugar candies, Indian nuts brittle and Saudi Arabian dates.

You'd think I would have added something Lebanese in the mix...

Anyways, it was a fun filled evening with kids entertaining adults and themselves. Come back soon...
