somerville kitchen welcomed neighbourhood's kids and not so kids anymore dressed as le jardin.
"Are you a pumpkin?" many kids asked. The more vegetable savvy ones said "no, you are a carrot".
Those ended up with two candies (well some just grabbed two candies anyways).
Parents capitalized on the theme to promote the benefits of vegetables.
Wonder how the kids would have reacted if the bucket I held was filled with carrots instead of Kit Kat and Smarties.
The thought was intriguing, but all I had around the house on Halloween were green tomatoes.
So the corn capitalized on this.
The corn was much more recognized as a corn than the carrot as one. But the corn had to deal with comments such as 'how corny' of you.
This did not stop the corn from dragging the carrot around the neighbourhood asking those who listened if they had butter.
Back to capitalizing on green tomatoes. The corn filled up its basket with green tomatoes and kids were then offered a choice between green tomatoes and candies. Do I need to report preference results?
The sensitive heart of the corn though could not resist giving also a candy to any kid who chose a green tomato (and I can just imagine the look on the parent's faces when their kids came home with a green tomato).
But wait, jardin's highlight are its peas. So a pea pod joined the corn and the carrot welcoming tricksters.
The pea pod looked around and decided that its choice of treat is going to be... chunks of wood.
The pea pod was extremely convincing (or was it its scare tactic) that the basket of wood was empited up by the kids very quickly.
if you thought the parents were going to question green tomatoes, I wonder if they will come throwing pieces of wood their kids took home through my window.
At the end of the night, all had fun. The cats vote for the best jardin crop was (obviously) the colour matching carrot.
Happy Halloween from somerville kitchen.
