A couple of bakers and a gardener carried baskets of goodies today and went around to every house on the block, meeting our neighbours.
Some we met for the first time, others we put names to their faces.
The project started a month ago when my neighbour brought out the idea of baking together and going visiting our neighbours.
The concept was fine-tuned over the weeks and today was time to make it happen.
3 hours of baking produced 2 trays of Sfoof and over 300 chocolate chips cookies.
Next door the oven was working just as hard making 100's of sugar and ginger cookies, perfectly shaped.
A gardener joined in and we worked all afternoon packing up the bags.
At 6:00 pm, we took off with our baskets of bags of 6 cookies and Sfoof. Gardeners got a pot of flat chives.
An hour later, every house on the block was visited. Those not home were left a bag of goodies in their mailboxes. But the real fun was meeting our lovely neighbours who all welcomed us with warmth and open homes.
We exchanged names, visited and had fun, which is the way neighbours ought to be.
A small step in building a safer, happier and friendlier communities, I recommend you try this out on your block - An experience not to be missed.
