Lunch With A View

A blogger roams Salt Spring Island.

A blogger hikes to Harbour House Hotel

A blogger discovers the hotel's restaurant and its organic farm.

A nice discovery. Let's start with the restaurant.

Service spaced-out, inexperienced, but friendly enough.

Food is very good; a true farm to table experience given the farm is 20 meters away from the table.

And that becomes apparent when tasting the chicken in this decadent chicken poutine.

If I thought harder, I would have ordered a grilled chicken and enjoyed the fresh organic farm chicken taste.

The seafood chowder was packed with fresh seafood.

Mussels, prawns, fish, and a salmon crab fish cake to top it all - a meal on its own.

But the best part of the show is the view.

Right behind the hotel/restaurant is their farm. We accepted the invite to walk through and meet farm friends.

Few goats and chicken around. All sorts of vegetables, berries, herbs and edible flowers growing inside and outside green houses.

A chat with a friendly farmer explained how what is planted in the farm is driven by the restaurant's executive chef. This way, all menu items can be based on what is offered in the farm.

A beautiful setting and serenity that I considered applying for the scarecrow job.

Life on the Islands. If I go back, it may be with a one-way ticket.
